Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board, Hong Kong Shipowners Association (HKSOA) and Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM), the second edition of the Hong Kong Maritime Week (previously known as Hong Kong Maritime Awareness Week) will be held from 19 to 26 November 2017 to “Propel Hong Kong” as a renowned international maritime centre.
As world trade grows and trade barriers are dismantled, the volume of seaborne trade continues to increase and is estimated to account for 90% of world trade. Due to the international and the silent dedication nature of the industry, the public is not well aware of the historic and contemporary importance of the maritime community to Hong Kong and its contribution to the economy in Hong Kong as a vibrant international maritime centre.
The Hong Kong Maritime Week aims to unite and showcase the Hong Kong maritime industry as a strong cluster, raise the community’s awareness of the significant economic contributions of Hong Kong’s maritime and port industries, promote Hong Kong as a preferred base for operating maritime business, and reach students with a focus on employment opportunities in the maritime sector. During the week, the HKMM will organise a myriad of fun-filled educational activities, including maritime-themed school workshops, ‘HONG KONG, at the water’s edge’ photography exhibition, Simulator experience and Tugboat visit (supported by HUD Salvage & Towage). The HKMM will be open to public for free on the weekend of 25 and 26 November, and organise two new events–Maritime Career Expo and Family Fun Day respectively.
Join our Maritime Career Expo on 25 November and enjoy free admission, supported by Pacific Basin and Valles Steamship Co., Ltd. The expo will consist of 15 shipping and tertiary educational organisation booths with HR and industry experts. Supported by Simpson Spence Young, keynote captain, cruise crew purser and entrance examiner, industry professionals, student, as well as celebrity speaker will be invited to share their seafaring adventure stories, interview skills and industry information to introduce potential career opportunities to youngsters in the afternoon.
